How to get to Colibița
Simple steps for the main access directions.
Think of them as a quick route summary before you start driving.
Bistrița → Colibița
Classic route via the Bârgău valley. From the Prundu / Bistrița Bârgăului / Mureșenii Bârgăului area you have several local roads climbing up to the lake.
- Leave Bistrița heading east on DN17 (towards Vatra Dornei).
- Follow the Bârgău valley: Livezile → Josenii Bârgăului → Prundu Bârgăului.
- From the Prundu Bârgăului area follow the signs to Colibița. You can climb either via Bistrița Bârgăului or via Mureșenii Bârgăului – both roads lead to the lake.
- Continue on the local mountain road until you reach the lake area and the Colibița resort (shore with cabins and guesthouses).
Vatra Dornei → Colibița
Mountain route via Tihuța Pass, then down towards the Bârgău valley.
- Leave Vatra Dornei on DN17 towards Bistrița / Cluj-Napoca.
- Drive through Poiana Stampei and up through Tihuța Pass to the Piatra Fântânele / Dracula Castle area.
- Continue on DN17 downhill into the Bârgău valley, towards Prundu Bârgăului / Bistrița Bârgăului.
- From the Prundu / Bistrița Bârgăului / Mureșenii Bârgăului area follow the signs to Colibița (mountain road climbing up to the lake).
Cluj-Napoca → Colibița
Usual route: Cluj-Napoca → Dej → Beclean → Bistrița, then along the Bârgău valley to the Colibița access area.
- Leave Cluj-Napoca on E576 / DN1C towards Dej, then continue to Beclean.
- From Beclean follow the DN17 road to Bistrița.
- Drive through Bistrița and continue on DN17 along the Bârgău valley: Livezile → Josenii Bârgăului → Prundu Bârgăului.
- From the Prundu / Bistrița Bârgăului / Mureșenii Bârgăului area follow the signs to Colibița and drive up the local mountain road to the lake.
